Wollogorang Refuge

Wollogorang Station, NT/QLD

Wollogorang translates to ‘happy running water’. During the wet season in the top end of Australia, water arrives on mass, refreshing the dry arid landscape. Some of this water collects in different places creating critical refuges for native fauna and flora throughout the next dry season. This work is a celebration of that yearly process which insures the survival of the land and its inhabitant’s.

Wollogorang is also the name of a station in Northern Queensland and the Northern Territory. The slice of heaven which inspired this painting can be found not far from the homestead on Wollogorang.
